Role Overview:
As the Underwriter of Insurance and Financial Services, you will be responsible for evaluating and assessing the risks associated with insurance policies and financial products. Your role will involve making informed decisions on policy approvals, pricing, and terms, while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and evaluate insurance applications, financial products, and client information to determine risk levels.
- Develop and recommend policy terms, coverage limits, and premiums based on risk analysis.
- Review and analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to assess the financial health of applicants.
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with regulatory standards and company policies.
- Collaborate with other departments, including claims, legal, and sales, to ensure accurate and fair underwriting practices.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors that may impact underwriting decisions.
- Provide guidance and support to junior underwriters and other team members, sharing expertise and best practices.
- Prepare and present reports on underwriting performance, trends, and areas for improvement to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an underwriter, preferably in the insurance or financial services sectors.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, financial analysis, and underwriting principles.
- Familiarity with Alberta’s regulatory requirements for insurance and financial services.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and tools, as well as advanced knowledge of Excel and data analysis techniques.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., Chartered Insurance Professional) are a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
