Role Overview:
As the Actuary of Insurance and Financial Services, you will play a crucial role in assessing financial risks, analyzing complex data, and advising on financial stability within the insurance and financial services industries. You will work closely with regulatory teams, providing expert actuarial insights and recommendations to guide policy decisions and regulatory actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct actuarial analyses to evaluate the financial health and solvency of insurance companies and financial institutions.
  • Develop and implement models to assess and manage risks, including underwriting, pricing, and reserving strategies.
  • Review and validate actuarial reports and financial statements submitted by regulated entities.
  • Provide expert advice on the development of regulatory frameworks, policies, and guidelines related to insurance and financial services.
  • Collaborate with other regulators, industry stakeholders, and government officials to promote best practices and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging risks, and economic factors that may impact the insurance and financial services sectors.
  • Prepare and present reports, recommendations, and forecasts to senior management and regulatory committees.
  • Support the resolution of complex regulatory issues and disputes, providing actuarial expertise and guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an actuary, preferably in the insurance or financial services sectors.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial principles, risk management, and financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards in Alberta’s insurance and financial services industries.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in actuarial software and tools, as well as advanced knowledge of Excel and data analysis techniques.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field; Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) designation preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
