We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Regulator of Insurance and Financial Services to join our team and lead regulatory activities.
Role Overview:
As the Regulator of Insurance and Financial Services, you will be responsible for overseeing the regulation and supervision of insurance companies, financial institutions, and related service providers in Alberta. Your role will involve ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, conducting audits and investigations, and implementing policies that safeguard the interests of consumers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and enforce compliance with insurance and financial services regulations across the province.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and investigations of insurance companies and financial institutions to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Review and assess applications for licenses and registrations, making decisions based on regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement policies and guidelines to address emerging issues and trends in the insurance and financial services sectors.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to senior management and government officials on regulatory matters.
- Liaise with industry stakeholders, consumer groups, and other regulatory bodies to promote best practices and maintain open communication.
- Handle consumer complaints and disputes, ensuring they are resolved in a fair and timely manner.
- Stay current with industry developments, regulatory changes, and economic trends to inform decision-making and policy development.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in insurance and financial services regulation, compliance, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of Alberta’s regulatory framework for insurance and financial services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are a plus.
- Proven ability to manage and lead regulatory projects and initiatives.
