Role Overview:
As a School-Aged Child Care Worker, you will play a vital role in caring for and supervising children during before and after school programs. You will be responsible for planning and leading activities that promote learning, creativity, and social development, all while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys engaging with children and is committed to fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage with school-aged children during before and after school care programs, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that encourage learning, creativity, and physical activity.
- Assist children with homework and other educational tasks, promoting a positive attitude towards learning.
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment where all children feel valued and respected.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding their child’s progress, behavior, and any concerns.
- Ensure the safe supervision of children during outdoor play, field trips, and other group activities.
- Prepare and serve snacks and meals, considering any dietary needs or preferences.
- Collaborate with other staff members to maintain a cohesive and supportive team environment.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, activities, and any incidents or concerns.
- Follow all health and safety regulations to maintain a safe environment for the children.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with school-aged children in a childcare, after-school program, or similar setting is preferred.
- Certification in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child and Youth Worker (CYW), or a related field is an asset.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it.
- Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities for school-aged children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with children.
- Ability to plan and organize engaging and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the children and the childcare center.
- References from previous childcare or educational positions will be required.
