We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Family Preservation Counsellor to join our team in Brunswick.
Position Overview: The Family Preservation Counsellor will work closely with families to provide support, guidance, and therapeutic services aimed at strengthening family relationships and preventing out-of-home placements. This role requires a deep understanding of family dynamics, excellent counseling skills, and a strong commitment to helping families thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and family counseling to address issues related to family preservation and reunification.
- Develop and implement personalized care plans based on the specific needs of each family.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, including social workers, educators, and healthcare providers, to coordinate services for families.
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops focused on parenting skills, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Conduct home visits to assess family environments and provide in-home support when necessary.
- Monitor and document the progress of families, adjusting care plans as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Offer crisis intervention services and support families in times of acute need.
- Advocate for families within the community and connect them with additional resources and services.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with clients.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
- Experience working with families, particularly in a counseling or support role.
- Strong understanding of family dynamics, child development, and the factors that contribute to family preservation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
- Compassion, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to helping families.
- Knowledge of community resources and the ability to make appropriate referrals.
- Certification or licensure in counseling or social work is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to conduct home visits as required.
